The Office of Ordinary Things is a sustainability-focused, purpose-led design studio based in San Francisco. The two most important things to know about us are:

  1. We only work with organizations that seek to benefit our earth and/or society.
  2. We create work with wit and whimsy that subverts expectations, breaks clichés, and makes you look twice twice.

The studio was co-founded in 2010 by Jonathan “Jonny” Black and Richard “Richard” Roche (both he/him). From 2010 to late 2020, we went by Cast Iron Design. We’re still the same people doing pretty much the same things, just a tad more hardcore.

We’re at our best when we can work broadly and comprehensively. Most of our relationships start with branding and extend to print, web, or packaging. We’re also adept at designing exhibitions, events, and books.

While that pretty much sums it up, here’s a bullet-pointed list that we put here because it helps us with SEO:

  • Branding

  • Brand Strategy

  • Print and Editorial

  • Collateral/SWAG

  • Packaging

  • Web/UI Design

  • Frontend Development

  • Copywriting

  • Signage

  • Wayfinding

  • Photography

  • Motion/Video
