2022 in Review
2022 in Review
In case you missed it, in late 2020 we changed our name from Cast Iron Design to The Office of Ordinary Things (TOOOT) and moved to San Francisco. Here’s a look back at our very eventful 2022!
01
Highlights

↑ Team Additions
We’re thrilled to have new additions to the TOOOT team family. We had designer Giorgia Sage join our team, plus stints from design interns Keila Roberts (spring/summer) and Annika Mussell (fall/winter).
↑ First Round Conference
In the Spring, Jonny spoke at First Round, a brand design conference. This one was extra special because we’d gone to previous First Rounds as attendees before receiving an invitation to present. If you work in branding, we’d highly recommend it.
↑ New Office
We moved into a new office in the Mission district of San Francisco. We worked remotely through 2021, so 2022 was our first year in SF working in a proper office. PS: We love mail! 3647 23rd St, San Francisco, CA 94110.
↑ 12 Year Anniversary Party
We had an opening party to christen our new SF office and celebrate 12 years of existing. We’ve also started to host quarterly event series, DOOOD (Designers Openly Opposing Outsize Disconnectedness).
↑ Farewell Richard!
Richard and I (Jonny) started the business together in 2010. In 2019, Richard told me he wanted to have the flexibility of that freelance life but that he would stay on for a few more years. (Where most would give a two week notice, Richard gave me a three year notice!) TOOOT will continue to work with Richard as a contractor on web projects and he’ll continue to help guide the business in the coming years. Richard’s spirit is forever enshrined in our work and our values. His new operation is called Infinite Productivity and we wish him incredible success in his next chapter!

New Work
↑ Simply Organic, but Make It Premium
After years of pandemic-induced hibernation, our work for Simply Organic finally surfaced this year. We designed a new product line called Simply Organic Single Origin, available at east coast grocers including Wegmans and Publix. Case study coming soon!
↑ A Playground for Print
D&K Printing, known for their focus on sustainability, gave us carte blanche on designing an eco-focused promotional print piece. We had an absolute blast creating it—the best part is the zip strip (sound on!). Full case study launching in February!

↑ CO2-sequestering Suds
CleanO2 tapped us for a ground-up rebrand to more effectively tell the story behind their climate-fighting technology. We developed strategy, brand identity, packaging, and a website centered around the company’s innovative products: soap made with carbon captured by CleanO2.
↑ Wine, Simplified
Guildford Green is a wine merchant that provides a lovingly curated, seasonally rotating selection of wines from small, independent wineries. We recently launched a case study to promote the brand we made (and not as an excuse to drink wine on the job).
↑ Climate Data Alchemy
CarbonPlan is a climate-focused non-profit that creates tools and resources to “improve the transparency and scientific integrity of climate solutions.” We developed a brand optimized for data visualization and comprehension with a touch of cheeky geek.

Upcoming Case Studies
↑ CDR Primer
The CDR Primer (Carbon Dioxide Removal) was created collaboratively by an international team of over 50 scientists. The first comprehensive source for the subject, the primer serves as a guide to humanity’s very necessary future in setting up large-scale CDR. We designed a visual identity, infographics, and a book. We also designed and developed the website. Case study coming soon!
↑ Hawktail
We designed an identity and website for Hawktail, a climate- and health-focused venture capital firm based in the bay area. Check out their website and play with the time-of-day slider in the bottom left corner. (Fun easter egg: click the logo at the top.)
↑ Breck Create
When our client Breck Music was folded into Breck Create—a larger, broader arts nonprofit also based in Breckenridge, Colorado—they brought us on board for a fresh and flexible rebrand that helps to unify the organization’s diverse programs.
↑ Mad Agriculture
Mad Ag exists to support farmers transitioning to regenerative agriculture. They asked us to give them “a punk rock makeover” (our words, not theirs). In addition to the brand identity, we helped with strategy, messaging, and a robust new site. Case study coming soon!
Looking Ahead
We’re already delving into exciting partnerships in 2023, including a project with renowned nonprofit Conservation International and a brand identity for London-based climate startup Isometric.
